Gulfport Chamber Hosts “Watch Us Soar!”- A Special Themed First Friday Art Walk

On October 7th, 2022, as part of its First Friday Art Walk series, the Gulfport Merchants Chamber of Commerce (GMC) will host a special themed night celebrating women entitled – Watch Us Soar! Women on the Rise.

The October event honors and highlights the efforts of women-owned businesses, artists, and breast cancer warriors. This event occurs during National Women in Business Month and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a fitting way to celebrate women artists and business owners as well as the accomplishments of women overcoming challenges.

GMC Art Committee Chair and Gallery owner Brenda McMahon, who came up with the idea, said: “Watch Us Soar! occurs during National Women in Business Month and we thought it is a perfect way to celebrate and uplift artists and business owners. It’s been a challenging few years for many of these women and yet here we are doing some amazing things and really soaring.” McMahon adds, “We wanted to bring the community together to celebrate that. In Gulfport, we have over 60 women-owned businesses and many more women studio artists. We wanted to showcase these talented women together. What a perfect marriage!”

GMC is inviting artists, breast cancer support and celebration organizations, tattoo artists who specialize in mastectomy tattoos that both heal and empower women, and others with a mission of helping women to be a part of this special themed walk. All artists, not just women, are encouraged to apply at https://visitgulfportflorida.com/first-friday-art-walk to be a part of the festivities.

The community is invited to enjoy this free event on October 7th from 5 PM – 9PM to celebrate the accomplishments of talented women. As part of Watch Us Soar! (this special celebration) the event organizer, GMC, is making a donation to the Sonia Plotnick Health Fund, which helps promote the wellness of women in the Tampa Bay area through providing financial assistance for healthcare costs and health-related education opportunities for women.
