The Veterans of South Pinellas County are hosting their 5th Annual Salute to the Military Mar. 28. Select streets in Pass-a-Grille (PAG) will be filled with classic cars, food, beer, wine, other vendors, and military exhibits. Live music will fill the air from a stage on the plaza adjacent to the Paradise Grille.
The day’s events start at 9 a.m. at the Bayway Bridge which will be dedicated to St. Pete Beach resident and Medal of Honor recipient CSM Gary Littrell. The fun moves down to PAG with a competition classic car show at 10 a.m. The street fair opens at 11 a.m. and at 11:15 a.m. commandos will parachute onto the beach south of the Paradise Grille followed by a mass induction ceremony where young men and women will be sworn into the armed forces.
There will be a silent auction with one of a kind oil paintings, a day trip by private plane to Key West, other prizes and periodic 50/50 drawings. Kids can compete at the fishing tournament and antique fire truck rides will be available.
Six bands are scheduled from noon to 10 p.m. with Blue Water Rock Hounds, Funky Seeds, Horses Wild, Jeremy Thomas Band, Automatic Heat and headliner Buffalo Strange.
The Veterans of South Pinellas Countyis a 501(C)(3) charity and has given $75,000 in cash and in-kind donations to a variety of nonprofit groups that support veterans. This year’s benefactors are: Building Homes for Heroes, Support The Troops, and Habitat for Humanity – Veteran Repair Program.
Gulf Way will be closed from 9th to 11th Avenues, and 9th and 10th Avenues will be closed between PAG Way and Gulf Way.
