GULFPORT

The Grand Prix of Gulfport Boat Show & Race is the last weekend of March 2019  

Race Schedule:

  • Saturday March 30 – Testing – 9 am – Noon Class Racing – 12:30 pm-5 pm
  • Sunday, March 31 – Testing – 9 am – Noon Class Racing – 12:30 pm to 5 pm, Awards – 5:30 pm

Local non-profit organizations that target or include Gulfport in their activities are invited to apply The Gulfport Merchant’s Chamber (GMC community support grants. program. Only certified tax-exempt non-profit organizations, government entities requesting funds for public purposes, or schools and colleges qualify. Click on “Community Grant” on the home page at www.VisitGulfportFlorida.com  for more details and to apply by March 31 deadline.

Decisions announced by April 27. Special consideration will be given to groups that are able to help promote and provide volunteers for the GMC events that raise the funds making these grants possible.  “Gecko World” events with funds earmarked each year for community giving include “Gecko Crawl,” “Gecko Ball” and the GeckoFest street festival.  The events grow in size and popularity every year and each requires a large promotional effort and a large number of volunteers. Grant amounts will be determined and funds distributed to grantees after these GMC events have concluded for 2019. SOUTH PASADENA

Call for Volunteers & Artists! 33rd Annual Artspring Exhibition – March 29-31, 2019 The city of South Pasadena is seeking volunteers to help with the 33rd Artspring Exhibition. Shifts are available on March 25 – April 1, 2019. Artists are also needed to exhibit their artwork. No entry fee. For more info contact City Hall at 347-4171.

ST PETE BEACH

The Chalk-Lit Fair, a NEW SPB event is Saturday, March 30. This is a new FREE family event that celebrates the art community with a twist! Register to participate in the book-themed sidewalk chalk contest and visit with local artists, watch live performances, enjoy carnival games, food, beer and wine! Spaces are approximately  5’ × 5’ with limited spots available so register early! Paradise Tours & Transportation has begun taking people on 90 minute mural tours of St. Pete in their 14-passenger shuttle bus. The Paradise Bazaar & Pass-a-Grille Beach Art Mart combined and are now the Suntan Art Mart. The Suntan Art Mart is a market happening Fridays (January–May) & Saturdays & Sundays year-round 9am – 4pm, across Pass-a-Grille Way from PSTA’s busiest trolley stop, next to Paradise Grille in Pass-a-Grille.

Orchid Society Repotting Event – Sat. March 23, 2019

At the Tropical Pavilion in the East Gardens of the Florida Botanical Gardens, 12520 Ulmerton, Largo Fl. 33774.  FWC Orchid Society members will re-pot your orchids and provide you with information on orchid culture. You can watch and learn while your orchids are taken care of. A reasonable fee is charged to cover the cost of the supplies for the repotting the orchids. Proceeds go to FWCOS to offset the cost of the materials. For info call 727-475-0750.


TREASURE ISLAND / MADEIRA BEACH

Rotary Golf and Tennis Challenge on March 8 & 9. This is our one chance each year to raise money to help juniors in OUR area that normally might not be able to participate in camps here in Treasure Island.  Friday, the  weekend kicks off with The SPC Women’s Tennis Challenge from 4 pm – 6:30 pm. The scheduled tennis match was cancelled and we are challenging all level players to come out and hit with the Lady Titans – This will be followed by dinner and the silent auction preview. 

There will also be a Foot Golf Tournament for juniors, men & women on Friday, March 8, with a shotgun start at 4:30 pm. The fee for the Foot Golf Tournament is $10 / person or $25 per family of four. 

Saturday morning – tennis mixer / competition along with a golf scramble.  We have a number of great door prizes for all participating tennis players to have a chance to win. Spots are still available to play tennis and golf. We love to have a full tennis house (40) and truly would like to have all participate. If you cannot play Saturday, March 9th, think about donating a playing fee to the event in your name.


Spring Break Carnival, hosted by The Gulf Beaches Rotary Club & city of Madeira Beach starts Thursday, March 14th.
Taking place in Madeira Beach’s Recreation Complex & ROC Park, 300 Municipal Dr., Madeira Beach, 33708 from Thursday, March 14 – Sunday, March 17, 2019.

This 4-day, fun-filled event will offer a collection of carnival rides provided by Arnold Amusements, live entertainment as well as awesome food and craft vendors. ADMISSION FREE!


The Treasure Islettes Spring Fashion Show & Fundraiser will be Saturday, March 16, at The Club at Treasure Island. $25 Tickets include lunch.  ‘Raindrops and Roses’ will feature a wonderful spring/summer fashion collection courtesy of  Patchington Boutique.  In addition, there will be door prizes, super raffle etc.  opportunities and a great silent auction. Treasure Island Historical Society is holding its annual fundraiser on March 28, 2019, 6 pm to 8 pm at the Club at Treasure Island. The Society will be presenting the John Burke Civic Award, to recognize an individual who has demonstrated high levels of service through community  involvement in Treasure Island. In addition, journalist Bill DeYoung will give a presentation of his book, “Skyway, The True Story of Tampa Bay’s Signature Bridge and the Man who Brought it Down”. Tickets are $50 including a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres.



The Greater Treasure Island Club (TGTIC) – The vision is a community of residents working together to improve & preserve the distinctive character of Treasure Island.  A volunteer organization of residents dedicated to capitalizing on opportunities and managing challenges, with the goal of leaving a more beautiful and more sustainable Treasure Island to future generations.

Initial goals:

1)  Redevelopment of the downtown core business district
2)  Beautification of Causeway Blvd leading into Treasure Island (Common Fence Style)
3)  Replacement of the portion of Beach Trail owned by the city of St. Petersburg.

Pinellas County residents can experience a behind-the-scenes look at their county government in this year’s Pinellas Citizen University. Registration is now open for the six-week course scheduled for Wednesday evenings from March 13 – April 17.
