The Miracle League is Making More Miracles

The Kiwanis of Gulf Beaches Miracle League is back playing baseball on Saturday’s at Walter Fuller Park. Come and feel your face shine and spirits soar.

The Kiwanis of Gulf Beaches Miracle League, which champions baseball for the physically and mentally challenged, has returned.  A $115,000 FieldTurf playing surface became reality in 2018 with the help from the league benefactors, as well as former Ray’s manager, Joe Maddon’s Respect 90 Foundation, Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation and the Clearwater for Youth organization.

At the Miracle League, everyone bats, gets a hit, gets on base and scores.

George Stone has been the league’s best friend and a top Ray’s fan since there were only 4 members in the Kiwanis Club of the Gulf Beaches. Some favorite memories of his include… “We’ve had kids get up out of their chairs and walk. One child who had never talked started telling jokes. It really happens.”

For Maddon, it was as simple. “It needed to be done. It had to be done,” said Maddon. “It’s vital anywhere. I don’t believe we think enough about this.”
