This island-inspired restaurant on Tierra Verde serves up great food, crafted cocktails, attentive service with a smile, bars both indoors and outdoors and live music (steel drum, jazz, island, acoustic) nightly and on Sunday, noon-4pm. The Island Grille is always upgrading and innovating. There’s a new chef, seasonal specials, an expanded raw oyster bar, new early bird three-course menu Mon.-Fri. 3-5:30pm (salad, entrée + 2 sides, dessert), new patio furniture, umbrellas, luxe floating docks, and interior embellishments (new carpet, booths, tableware) plus reimagined private dining areas.
Under the seasoned eye of owner Steve Westphal, one of Florida’s most respected restaurateurs, you’ll be delighted by the spectacular appetizers, mussels, fresh seafood (grouper, salmon, tuna, crab cakes), raw bar and steaks (Black Angus sirloin or tenderloin). Cold water oysters (raw, steamed, or fried) or char-grilled oysters with tantalizing sauces (garlic butter and parmesan, chipotle lime, casino-style) and the cream cheese and crab oven-baked oysters are the best in town. Shrimp your way can be grilled, Cajun, fried or coconut and the seafood baskets of oysters, grouper nuggets or shrimp come with tasty fries and coleslaw.
Go Island-style with shrimp and crab pasta, Calypso pork chop or po-boy. Fan favorites are the Island tacos, jerk BBQ chicken, lobster sliders, chopped salad, spicy tuna bowl, shrimp ceviche, lobster and crab-stuffed mushrooms and lobster mac n’ cheese. There’s also a terrific kids’ menu (chicken bites, fried shrimp, cheese quesadilla) and if you catch a fish, they’ll cook it and serve it family style! Save room for dessert, especially the drunken bread pudding and key lime pie.
