Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce Coronavirus Update

Health Update:
According to Florida Department of Health, risk to the public in Florida remains low. 

The federal government has not recommended limiting domestic travel. Click Here for information from the Center for Disease Control regarding Travel.  

According to the Center for Disease Control, seasonal flu is still more common and is a greater threat to the community than Coronavirus at the present time. Click Here for more information.

The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. Other safety tips:

  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.Staying home when you are sick.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. 
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

Economic Update:

Yesterday, the TBBCoC participated in two conference calls regarding the Coronoavisrus which emphasized the following: 

  • 1st Quarter may see a temporary disruption.
  • Our economy will not move too far from status quo.
  • There is no chance this will cause a recession.
  • No Analysis on tourism. Will know more as we progress.
  • Trade is not affected by travel restrictions.
  • Cargo planes and Ships still coming.
  • The biggest threat is household fear.
  • We need to spread facts and mitigate any unnecessary panic. 

These two conference calls were comprised of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, senior White House officials, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Homeland Security and Department of Transportation.
