Summer Staycations

By Nanette Wiser

Adult fun in the sun abounds in Paradise, and you can cool down at these hot evenings on the town.  You can shop till you drop at Tyrone or John’s Pass Village, kiss a gator at the Alligator & Wildlife Discovery Center and explore these 101 ideas.

CATCH A SHOW  Music, theater, karaoke, live poetry, or comedy nights will keep you busy. Check out Zubrick Magic Theatre, where Chris and Ryan have added some new show-stopping acts to their mesmerizing performances. Studio@620 showcases poetry and other readings. The Friendly Tavern hosts one of the longest running karaoke nightly events and LALA downtown is a sophisticated night out with friends in a private karaoke room. The beach tiki bars rock day and night (Jimmy B’s, Coconut Charlies, The Doubletree, Bongo’s) and we love happy hour and live music nightly at RumFish Grille 6-9pm. For rooftop bars with entertainment, The Cambria, Fusion, Level 11 Rooftop Bar at Bellweather Beach Resort, Edy’s in Clearwater Beach, and downtown’s Canopy are perfect for sunsets. For theater, book tickets for freeFall, American Stage, The Straz or a concert at The Palladium, The Sound, Ruth Eckerd, or Mahaffey. Movie buffs, take advantage of the local cinema discounts, many on Tuesday.

LITTLE MERMAIDS Check the local hotel websites to see who sell day passes to use the pool and enjoy the food and drink amenities, such as The Hollander Hotel, Bellweather Beach Resort, Dolphin Beach Resort, Beachcomber Beach Resort, Postcard Inn, The Saint, The Godfrey and others. Take a belly dance class, float in a spring water-filled pool and enjoy champagne brunch at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. At Caddy’s in Sunset Beach, the cabana folks set you up with umbrella and chair so you can swim and enjoy live music and yummy boat drinks. For families, Splash Island Water Park at Indian Rocks’ Holiday Inn & Suites Harborside is a great day, with lunch at Jimmy Guana’s and live music. On Water Park Wednesday, spend $50 at Jimmy Guana’s and receive a free ticket to Splash Harbour!
