There is an amazing 90-year-old private golf club in our area, tucked away, just north of 54th Ave. S. (the Pinellas Bayway) near Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, offering a peaceful, shady round of golf. St. Petersburg Country Club opened as Lakewood Country Club in 1924, widely recognized for having 18 exceptional holes of golf, where golf legends, such as Sam Snead and Ben Hogan, have left their footsteps. The golf course architect, Herbert Strong, was a former professional golfer of the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Kent, England. Golf enthusiasts will truly enjoy this championship course, which is absent of parallel fairways, allowing for fast play and the pleasure of solitude; where members may also walk anytime. The club features full practice facilities, including a driving range, an 18-hole putting course and a practice chipping green. The course’s golf professionals organize games daily and offer private lessons.
Tennis is also popular at SPCC. Six of their eleven Har-Tru coated courts are lit for night play. A talented group of tennis professionals provide lessons, ladies league play, men’s groups, mixed mens and ladies groups, warm-up clinics, traveling leagues, satellite teams and the Pinellas Area Doubles League. For the younger tennis players, there is junior tennis, summer tennis camps for the aspiring tennis player ages five to eighteen and an after-school (September – May) junior tennis traveling program. Summer is especially fun for the whole family with their Junior Olympic Size swimming pool recently renovated and Summer Camps for Golf, Tennis and an All Day Fun Camp. They also sponsor their own kid’s competitive swim team.

Members love the course, the tennis, the swimming and our summer camp programs.
