The Beach Theatre and the City of St. Pete Beach are excited to announce the first films played under The Beach Theatre’s banner in ten years: a 100th birthday tribute to the incomparable Judy Garland. Over four Wednesday evenings in June, The Beach Theatre will take a look at four iconic Judy performances under the stars of Horan Park. They are excited to give you a glimpse of the specially-curated programming you’ll come to expect when they reopen our doors later this year. Admission is free! There will be food and beverage options available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting The Beach Theatre Community Foundation. Vintage movie posters will be available for a donation as well. Find more on their website at https://www.spbeachtheatre.org/summer-film-series.

MOVIES
The Wizard of Oz (1939) June 1 | 8pm
Sponsored By: The Corey Avenue Business Association
The timeless film to which she would become forever linked, Judy became a household name in 1939 with the release of The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy gets whisked away in a tornado to the magical Oz, and must fight the evil Wicked Witch of the West to get back home. The film itself won two Academy Awards, but Judy took home one of her own: the Juvenile Performer Award, lovingly nicknamed “the Munchkin Award.”
The Clock (1945) June 8 | 8pm
Sponsored By: Simply Perfect
A departure from the musicals that made her a star, then-husband Vincente Minelli directs Judy in her first major dramatic role, in which she falls in love with a GI while he is on 48-hour leave in New York City.
Summer Stock (1950) June 15 | 8pm
Sponsored By: Coastal Cottage
Judy saves the day when a troupe of actors, led by Gene Kelly, take over her Connecticut farm to put on a show. Her final film with MGM, the troubled production led her away from the screen and onto the stage for the next several years.
A Star is Born (1954) June 22 | 8pm
Sponsored By: JoJo’s Boutique
The second of four productions of this classic Hollywood story, Judy earned an Academy Award nomination for her sweeping portrayal of an up-and-coming actress whose career ascends as her husband/mentor’s spirals out of control.
So happy the Beach Theatre is paying homage to the beloved and brilliant Judy Garland!
We are too! Hope you make it out to all your favorite Judy films!
