Meet ZooTampa’s NEW Red Wolf Pups

ZooTampa at Lowry Park is howling with excitement to announce the birth of four critically endangered red wolves! The three females and one male were born to three-year-old mom Nymeria on April 28th. They had their one-month checkup recently and were found to be doing well including hitting milestones such as taking their first steps and gaining weight. Red wolves are among the world’s most endangered canids. Once ranging throughout the southeastern United States, fewer than 20 wild red wolves now remain in North Carolina. ZooTampa is proud to participate in The Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Red Wolf Species Survival Plan (SSP) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Red Wolf Recovery Program. The ultimate goal of the programs is to bolster the wild red wolf population. The red wolf pups should begin to emerge from their den later this summer so be sure to stop by and say “Hello!”
