Publishers Message January 2019

Happy New Year 2019!

As each year comes to an end, many of us plan ahead and write down our goals for the future. Otherwise known as setting New Year’s resolutions, many of us participate in this self-improvement ritual, yet few people actually follow through on them. If you find yourself breaking your resolutions within the first few weeks of a new year, you are one of 77% of people this happens to, according to a 2007 Reuters study.

Experts say we generally aim too high with our resolutions, and we get stuck in old pleasurable habits, like bingeing on Netflix. Our resolutions quickly fade in a blur of popcorn and self-indulgence.

This new year is quite special for us at Paradise NEWS.

Pete & Renee Roos Receiving Paradise News’ Day
From May Al Johnson in St. Pete Beach

This is our 25th January issue. We keep interested in what we do by trying to make every issue better than the one before.  We never tire of hearing our friends and neighbors say they enjoy the product of our labors. Perhaps the most beloved component in each, Paradise NEWS’ print edition (which can also be read online) is the most comprehensive directory of local Arts and Leisure activities and Events calendar you will find anywhere. Each issue contains advice columns from local experts in Construction, Fishing Health, Pet Health, Property Law, Real Estate and Trusts and Taxes. Some of our writers have been with us for more than a decade, like feature writer Steve Traiman and astrologer Sarah Lyons. Some are newer. Nanette Wiser, our Downtown Concierge columnist, is also our entertainment writer. Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones, has been doing a remarkable job with his Good Advice column since his introduction in August, relieving us from having to include a spiritual message in this column.

Our decade old website www.paradisenewsfl.com has been updated to a mobile-friendly Word Press platform, and contains a veritable wealth of community information. When you read the magazine online, all the web addresses are active links that you can click for more details.

Our online networking coordinator, who has been with us more than five years, puts together a weekly electronic newsletter that gets emailed Thursdays to a growing list of subscribers. The last edition can be found under the Newsletter tab. Each week we highlight the five top activities for the upcoming weekend along with some timely tidbits of news. Hit the subscribe button to order a FREE subscription sent to your inbox each Thursday.

We are excited that Paradise NEWS is celebrating the quarter century milestone by growing again, both in print and online. We appreciate the boost in revenues from our newest advertisers and we are putting those extra funds into an expansion into downtown and some of the waterfront communities in northeast St. Petersburg in this New Year. Thanks for reading and supporting Paradise NEWS for up to a quarter of a century.

As long as you keep reading, we’ll keep writing. Happy 2019 from us all.

Renee & Peter Roos & all the talented people that make Your New Year in Paradise a Little Bit Brighter.
