Welcome to the second of 2 bimonthly summer issue of our otherwise monthly magazine. Designed to be published on “Island Time”, Paradise NEWS is generally timely online at www.paradisenewsfl.com, where one can purchase a print subscription or sign up for a FREE, informative, weekly Thursday e-newsletter with a reminder of the top 5 things to do each weekend.
There are a lot of Golden 50-year celebrations this summer. Last issue it was fifty years of Renfrows at the Alden Resort, this month it’s 50 years since the first moon landing and on August 15, it’s fifty years since Woodstock. We’ll be celebrating that memory and our 48th Wedding Anniversary on that same day at the Mushroom Festival in Telluride, Colorado. This fall also marks the Silver Anniversary of this publication, this being the 248th edition.
Our August – September issue cover celebrates this year’s Geckofest theme, Geckos of the Round Table. The month-long celebration is typical Gulfport residents’ answer to the “dawg days” of summer. Culminating with an all day celebration on the last Saturday of August, this year on August 31st, it is a day for costumes, food, outlandish parades and great times. The cover story is only a bit about Geckofest and much more about the continuing evolution of the Gulfport business community, written by Caron Schwartz.
Also in the issue is an update of our Hurricane Preparation guide by Steve Traiman, so you can be prepared for the worst. Readers might see a marked change in design this month and in months to come as Janet Nummi has been promoted to art and production manager.
We welcome a few new advertisers this issue as well as most of our long time regulars. When you visit please tell them you saw their ad or read about them in Paradise NEWS.
Thanks for reading and keeping us on our toes.
