May 6 — Derby at the St. Pete Pier
$25-$4,995 (private cabana), 3-9 pm., Spa Beach, 615 Second Ave., St. Petersburg. Derby hats, sundresses, seersucker suits, and bow ties will be omnipresent, with everyone enjoying high-end bourbon, specialty craft cocktails, cigars, and of course, the traditional mint julep. May 6 – Cinco Dog Mayo 5K Run & Half Mile Dog Fun Run
$40 person/$10 per dog, 8am start, Archibald Park, 15100 Gulf Blvd., and ROC Park, Madeira Beach. In this inaugural race, the 5K takes place in Archibald Park; the dog run in ROC Park. This fundraiser supports nonprofit organization Compassion Kind & ALS Association. Some of the proceeds will go to help with the new dog park in Madeira Beach. May 6 — Mad Beach Grouper Gala

May 6 – Tropical Heatwave returns!

May 7 — Hats Off to Performing Arts

May 10-14 — Tampa Fringe Festival
Free-$15, depending on event, at various venues around Ybor City (check show calendar at tampafringe.org). Tampa’s only open-access, uncensored, international fringe theatre festival. Founded in 2016, the festival is primarily based around indoor performing arts productions. It’s completely uncensored and accepts companies through a lottery. One hundred percent of the money generated from ticket sales goes to the artists themselves.
May 12 — Reclamando Our Narrative Writing Series (Final session)
Free, 6-9pm,. Food and drinks 6-7pm; writing 7-8:30pm. Workshop series for the Latinx community to claim their stories, heal and connect, and participate in conversations about race equity, unity, and advocacy. The series is organized by Mi Gente Mi Pueblo. June 3 — Third Annual Gulfport Pride
Free, 10am-8pm, Downtown Gulfport Waterfront District. In addition to more than 130 local makers and small businesses, many businesses along Beach and Shore boulevards are planning live music, “fun-raisers,” and more fun and games. There’s even a local business décor contest! Plus two main stages and, of course, a marching band. This event benefits the Gulfport Public Library’s LGBTQ Resource Center, which promotes awareness of the diversity of experiences, contributions and needs of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer.
