City Manager Bob Daniels has announced a new program in Madeira Beach designed to help city residents see behind the scenes of how their local government works. The Madeira Beach Academy (MBA) is an 8-week course scheduled for consecutive Wednesdays at 6 p.m. beginning on February 26, 2020. Each class will feature a department director and their staff talking about their role in serving the community.
“We want to allow residents to see not only how government really works, but to introduce them to the people who work for them and develop that necessary partnership with the community,” said Daniels. “Local government is where decisions are made that have the most direct and immediate impact on the everyday lives of our citizens. The Madeira Beach Academy will allow those citizens to see how we reach those decisions.”
The class is limited to Madeira Beach residents only and will be limited to about 10 people for the first session. Spaces will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Residents can register by visiting the City of Madeira Beach website, www.madeirabeachfl.gov, click the Madeira Beach Academy Registration button on the front page and fill out the online application. There is no cost to take this class but there is an attendance commitment.
Light refreshments and snacks will be available, and each applicant will receive a welcome kit containing everything needed to participate. Each department in the City of Madeira Beach will be represented and city officials are also exploring the possibility of field trips to some of the city’s working partners in the Tampa Bay region.
