Madeira Beach City Manager Letter of Resignation

Dear Residents, Business Owners, Operators, and Visitors,

I came to Madeira Beach in the midst of some challenges and uncertainty. Over the past year plus, with the help of staff, we have worked hard to bring a sense of direction, purpose, and vision to our community. I have made many new friends, learned some valuable lessons, and hopefully contributed to the growth and evolution of Madeira Beach. Now it is time for me to move on.

Please accept this letter as my resignation from the position of City Manager for the City of Madeira Beach. My last day of employment will be Tuesday, July 9, 2019. I intend to assist the City with a smooth transition to ensure that the continuity of government is preserved. This decision was incredibly difficult for me, both professionally and personally. I experienced many sleepless nights as I considered the best path forward for myself and my family, and I thank the Board of Commissioners for their support and understanding.

I am grateful for the support I have received and the respect that I have gained from so many individuals in this community. While many of us have different perspectives, we all have the same goal – to preserve the culture of
Madeira Beach while engaging progress in a responsible manner. I value your opinions and your commitment to the community, and I thank you for participating in your local government.

This journey has forever changed me. The Madeira Beach community embraced me and allowed me to grow not only as a municipal manager, but as a person, and for that I thank you. To the elected officials, community leaders, and business owners: thank you for your tireless encouragement and efforts to continue to preserve Madeira Beach’s reputation as Florida’s most dynamic and unique community on the Gulf Coast.

To all the staff whom I have worked with during my tenure in this organization, thank you for your commitment to the City government’s mission of providing exceptional service. You are the heart and soul of this organization, and I know you will continue to do everything in your power to maintain this City’s remarkable progress.

Remember, as the great leader Mahatma Gandhi said, “Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory.” Thank you for everything and, most importantly, thank you all for welcoming me with open arms.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Evans, MPA, MBA, ICMA-CM
