The Madeira Beach 14u Riptide softball team went undefeated at the Babe Ruth World Series during July 15-23 in Jensen Beach, FL. They played eight games allowing only 12 runs and scoring 59. The final championship game was played against JPRD from Louisiana, last year’s World Series Champions, with the Riptide winning 7-3.
The team has worked hard the past few months placing first place in Districts, third in States and first Regionals for a spot to compete in the World Series. Only a select amount of teams from across the USA and internationally are asked to compete.
Several individual awards were given out at the Babe Ruth World Series and the Madeira Beach 14u team took home quite a few. Angie Ballew was the pitcher for the team and received the most awards of any player taking home the Gold Glove Award All-Defensive Team, All World Series Team and Most Outstanding Player, Kate McClellan played EP (extra player) and received All World Series Team, Randi Tubbs played first base and received the Gold Glove Award All-Defensive Team, Savanna Lanier played catcher and received the Gold Glove Award All-Defensive Team and Hailey Copechal played short stop and received All World Series Team.
A special thank you to the City of Madeira Beach for being the title sponsor and to all the sponsors who made traveling possible for the team.
