Lucky you! Staycations for Pinellas County Locals in St. Pete Beach

If you’re reading this, either you are a resident here or you’re vacationing in our beautiful beaches/downtown areas.  Me?  I’m a native St. Petersburg resident.  There are not many of us around here, it’s true.  Even in my 36 years in the area, I’m discovering new things every day.

The season is fast approaching for us locals to figure out how we are going to soak up the sun during staycation season.  I’m fortunate to not only look forward to playing on the beach, but I work there almost every day.  There are so many new offerings for those who work and play in the sand, I’m compelled to share… give you the inside scoop.

Postcard Inn

This property has had some definite changes through the years, some before my time.  As of late they have undergone an amazing renovation from the rooms getting an update, the air conditioning units are brand new, and even the outdoor furniture has been updated with brand new pieces.  Some created by the locally owned and operated “Island Time Design”.  Three of the newest endeavors have yet to be seen.  They are unveiling two new restaurants inside the main building and expanding their beach bar to accommodate more demand being seen outdoors. “PS Grind” is opening in February, and has the makings to become a go to place for locals to enjoy coffee and quick eats whether for breakfast or lunch.  Coffee provided by Kahwa, infused pastries, and quick and easy salads all sound very appealing, add wifi so one work while enjoying coffee on their outdoor patio facing the beach.  Perfection.  Finishing touches are being put on to their lobby bar, Stamp.  A full liquor bar with a lovely menu will also cater to locals as well as their guests.  Lastly, what was once the restaurant inside the front building is now event space which can be used for parties, conventions and more.   If you’re interested in checking out the new restaurants, they have parking designated for their patrons.  Official ribbon cutting/grand opening planned for the first of March, so stay tuned for details on that.

Sirata

The Sirata has undergone a huge renovation and it’s just about complete.  13-acres on beautiful powdery white sands, Sirata is certainly a favorite of visitors & locals alike.  Harry’s Beach Bar with their live music and great drinks to Compass Grille, they have something for everyone.  Recently the Sirata has been designated a top wedding venue by The Knot & Wedding Wire.  As a beach resident or visitor, one can call free beach rides and get dropped off, or stroll down the beach.  For anyone who lives a little inland, you can park there for $15 and your fee is waived after you spend $40 at the properties restaurants.

Don Cesar

The Don Cesar speaks for itself, as you’re arriving to the beach it is a true landmark.  The Don has undergone a few changes as well, however you’ll still find what seems like the same ice cream parlor on the first floor for those days you want to treat yourself or make a little one feel special with a sweet treat.  Locals have the option to self-park for free for the first two hours of the visit, or pay $22 per day for self parking.  You can certainly make a day of it with all of the new activities they are offering throughout the year.  For example, The Don has a nightly celebration taking place at The Rowe Bar they are calling “Don at Dusk”, and during the weekend it’s a “Shell-Ebration” with a champagne toast and raw bar.  Wellness Retreat packages have been added to their offerings, which is certainly appealing to anyone who is interested in having a positive change in their health and overall wellness.  Right now they have packages on the site through March, however they are adding more as we are getting closer to spring, so be sure to check the website for updates.

For those of us that live here year around, it’s important to patronize the businesses on the beaches.  Thanks to the bed taxes and tourism, Florida has no state tax, and we have such jewels right here in our own backyard.  Take advantage of the days we have here and enjoy what people spend all year dreaming of.
