The AIDS Service Association of Pinellas (ASAP), a member of Empath Health, presents the 12th Annual AIDS Walk Tampa Bay and Fun Run, at Vinoy Park in Downtown St. Petersburg this Saturday, Dec. 12. So far, fundraising dollars have reached $105,765.72, which is much-needed for our community that is seeing an increase of new HIV/AIDS cases.
According to data by the Florida Department of Health, Hillsborough County recorded a 63 percent increase in new HIV cases since 2012, and Pinellas County had a 32 percent increase in the same period. The state of Florida had 5,821 new HIV infections in 2014, a 27 percent increase from 2012, and more recent data collected in 2015 show that the numbers continue to rise.
