MobiMat RecPath
Treasure Island has one of the nicest and widest stretches of beach on the west coast of Florida. Thanks to the generosity of the owners of Gator’s on the Pass, a division of HomeOwners Choice Insurance Company, even the most physically challenged among us can access to the sights and sounds they previously could not enjoy. Treasure Island Police Chief Armand Boudreau said the new MobiMat RecPath, a removable access pathway made out of recycled materials, is proving so
popular he suspects others may be installed at other beach access points as well. It is 6.5 ft. wide and approximately 400 ft. long, extending towards the Gulf. The mat provides improved accessibility for residents and visitors with mobility impairments. It also provides improved access for pedestrians and users of strollers and beach carts. Gators Café & Saloon, a subsidiary of HCI Group, Inc., donated $21,175 to the City of Treasure Island for the purchase of the mat, the first of its kind in Pinellas County.
