Jazz Goes Viral in Tampa Bay

Article by Nanette Wiser

If you miss the Al Downing Jazz Association performances, pine no longer. Tune in every Monday on their page for a Facebook Live concert.

Groove from 6-7pm with a different group of jazz musicians, streamed live from Gulfport’s New Groove City Music Complex. The Monday Night Jazz Hour is the weekly virtual performance that currently replaces the popular live Monday Night Jazz Jam event hosted at the Hangar Restaurant & Flight Lounge for the past 10 years. The livestream can be viewed from the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association Facebook page.

New Groove City Music Complex is owned and run by Kenny Walker who is also a musician (bass). The ADTBJA organizer, Dwayne White, is on the Board and a musician as well (trumpet) and also books the musicians. ADTBJA continues its Monday Night Jazz Hour with all advised precautions being taken to ensure a safe environment for the musicians and the technicians.

On the entertainment schedule so far have been Lorri Hafer; LaRue Nickelson;  La Lucha with Alejandro Arenas, Mark Feinman and John O’Leary; James Suggs, trumpet; Synia Carroll, vocalist; “STretch” Bruyn, piano; Hiram Hazley, bass; Ron Gregg, drums; Jeremy Carter, saxophone; J.J. Pattishall, guitar and some of the ADTBJA scholarship winners.

The Monday Night Jazz Hour is also available at Sunshine 96.7 FM and RadioStPete.com as is Sunday Night Jazz with Frank Rivera from 7-10pm.
