REINVENT YOURSELF More people are finding less meaning and purpose from their jobs; in fact 4.3 million U.S. workers quit their jobs in August 2021. It’s being called The Great Resignation, but is it really The Great Reinvention? PN spoke to many of the market vendors, new to their enterprise after corporate life and remote work. PourDecisionsCoffee.com at Madeira Market, for example, left Netflix and traded his tech job for smoking sustainable coffee beans and creating teas. Whatever you dream you can do, begin. Switching careers is the future of work. Set goals, define what you want to do, practice and learn new skills and surround yourself with people who tell you the truth and can mentor you. For me, it might be hydroponic gardening with Brick Farms!
RELATIONSHIPS Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and love is top of mind. But the key to a great relationship is not just chocolates and roses. Laughter and listening are key. Here are some of the tips we gleaned: Keep expectations realistic. No one can be everything we might want them to be. Talk with each other. Calm, honest communication is essential to healthy relationships. Be flexible and fight fair. Keep your life balanced and take care of yourself, too. Be dependable, supportive and build trust, the bedrock of a lasting relationship. Keep the spark alive, with a hug, kind word or the joy of engaging in a new hobby or booking a couples’ massage.
BREATHE EASY After this summer’s red tide, no one takes breathing more seriously than us. Keep your lung function healthy with aerobic exercises or walking, eat more fruits/veggies and open your windows for fresh air. You can improve indoor air with a HEPA filter purifier, especially at night in your bedroom. And test your home for radon which can be found in well water or in walls and foundations. Radon is the third leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke. www.consumerreports.org/cro/air-purifiers/buying-guide/index.htm
