Island Time Outdoor Furniture: “The Chairman of the Beach”

By Peter Roos

Markus’ Island Time Outdoor Furniture is a St. Pete Beach success story. Being a success story in St. Pete Beach doesn’t mean you get rich, but for most of us, living on the island is enough. In 2003, Markus was selling software to school districts during the week, returning to St. Pete Beach on weekends. One day, he found himself with just one Adirondack chair and wanting to make a match. Markus, who had been yearning to make something with his hands, set out to create a beach chair, with just a few tools. He still has that chair. Then he sold another to a curious neighbor. It hasn’t stopped.

Since then, Island Time Outdoor Furniture has become the local go-to source for quality outdoor furniture. Markus was home building chairs when his sons came home from school and he loved being a dad to them. The elder son embraced hockey and at 16 years old is playing for a team in upstate New York. The younger has found new freedom taking his bike on the SunRunner to meet his friends, “The Tampa Bay Area is an incredible place to raise a family,” said Markus.

When his business outgrew his carport, Markus moved Island Time Outdoor Furniture to 75th Ave., just west of Blind Pass, where he spent 12 years. Last summer, Island Time Outdoor Furniture moved two blocks east, after acquiring the building where Coastal Glass used to be, between Enterprise Rental Car and Horan Park.

Island Time Outdoor Furniture has earned a reputation for designs that comfortably fit customers of any dimensions. They to switched to “polywood,” and use a true 1” thick material (5/4) rather than everyone else’s standard 3/4” thick. The difference shows up in sturdiness, comfort and reliability over time. Everything is screwed together with stainless steel screws. Besides producing the strongest, most comfortable Adirondack chair designs around, Island Time Outdoor Furniture has a new line of outdoor patio furniture assembled from the same colorful materials. There are a variety of tables and chair styles that are just as well designed as the original Adirondack models. If you are in the market for outdoor furniture that will hold up to the sun and salt air, this is it.

You can get the best quality outdoor furniture delivered to you locally or shipped anywhere in the country.
