Introducing Chill ‘OUT’ & more!

Chill Restaurant & Bar, at 357 Corey Avenue on St. Pete Beach, has been popular amongst locals and visitors alike. Chill was a go-to breakfast, lunch & dinner dining & entertainment establishment, even before its move to the ‘Heart of Corey Ave.’ nearly 3 years ago. Chill’s popular Sunday Brunch Buffet and a creative brunch menu continue through the summer for $16.95.

Everybody’s favorite Prime Rib Monday too, with 12+ ounces of prime rib, loaded mashed potatoes and salad for $16.95. Chill also boasts a fun atmosphere for dining and dancing. During the summer, until September, everyone’s favorite piano man, Carl, plays and croons his loyal follower’s favorites Fridays & Saturdays while the Act 3 MoTown group intends to continue on the 2nd & 4th Sunday nights.  John Sackett & his famous “Killer Dueling Pianos” are coming back on July 7th!  That’s a FANTASTIC event from 9-12. First come, first served that night!

Chill has several new focus areas and items as well.  First in an effort to “BRB” (Bring Rum Back) they are adding a weekly Wednesday Caribbean themed Calypso party with a really special menu, specialty island cocktails and live steel drum band and reggae music.  Chill has one of the coldest AC in town. So don’t forget to come cool off at Chill all summer long.

The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce named Chill – Woman Owned Business of the Year in 2013 because Chill has been creative, resourceful plus Ruthie’s tenacity.

She will need our community’s tremendous local support this summer. In mid March, her sweet-heart & partner, Steve, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He completed his first round of chemo last month and is now in his second round of chemo, preparing for a bone marrow/stem cell transplant in mid-July.  This is one of cancer’s most feared diagnosis, and carries an incredibly difficult road for both Steve & Ruthie. You might recall that one of Ruthie’s daughters is a cancer survivor for 3 years now.

There is a GoFundMe page linked to Chill’s web FB site for direct donation (gofundme.com/steve-vs-acute-myeloid-leukemia.)  Ken Hautman from Caddy’s is planning a huge party “pub crawl”  benefit for Steve on June 30th Check for details on Chill and Paradise NEWS websites. Ruthie says “we will definitely need support and it’s so humbling to be in this situation.”

She also keeps a Caring Bridge website updated for anyone wishing to follow Steve’s progress. She also mentioned she is working on a Chill cookbook of favorites that will help in the fundraising efforts.  “We are heading directly into the eye of the storm into our life’s most difficult months, and your continued love, prayers and support are absolutely needed and appreciated.” Ruthie says  “We have a great staff that Steve helped me train, and we have just added a strongly recommended chef, Cory Albright, to take over the daily management of our kitchen. GM Mark Crews has been taking over Ruthie’s position, and they stay in regular contact. Our leadership team is thrilled to launch this new on and off premises catering division.

“We’ve been catering inside the restaurant for parties of up to 50. Our back room is perfect for small weddings, rehearsal dinners, birthdays and family reunions.  The addition of more aggressive outside catering is a natural progression.”  Ruthie, Mark & Cory are developing themed catering menus, or of course, can do our menu tailored to budget and guest’s dreams for their special day.

The reconstruction of Blind Pass is encroaching.  Different sides of Corey Ave will be closed at different times late in August & September.  Guests can still access from Boca Ciega (near the post office) to park on Corey. It is a short walk, even from the City Hall parking lot.  Knowing the construction could hurt business in the heat of the summer, Ruthie has launched a catering service called Chill ‘OUT.’

Throwing Chill-OUT parties at places like St. Pete Beach Rec Center, TI Community Center or Lion’s Club, church social halls, or at the new fine arts hall at Admiral Farragut Academy, your condo clubhouse, or in your back yard, are all possibilities.
