City of Gulfport staff is closely tracking Tropical Storm Elsa as it makes its way into the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow night. The City’s Public Works Department has prepared drainage systems and facilities ahead of the storm.
Residents are advised to monitor local weather forecasts for information on the potential timing of any local impacts. Many areas south of 28th Avenue South in and along the City’s Waterfront and Marina areas could experience the most significant coastal flooding. Regardless of the storm’s track, high winds, rain and flooding or storm surge could begin to affect the City of Gulfport Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning.
The City of Gulfport self-service sandbag location at the 49th Street Neighborhood Center, 1617 49th Street South will remain open on Monday, July 5 from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. There is 10-bag limit and proof of residency may be required.
- As of Sunday evening, July 4, the City of Gulfport self-service sandbag location has distributed over 2,500 sandbags to the community.
The City of Gulfport Information Call Center will re-open for preparedness questions on Monday, July 5 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.. Call 727-893-1000 and speak to a City Staff member with preparedness questions.
- As of Sunday evening, July 4, the City of Gulfport Information Call Center has handled over sixty (60) phone calls in preparation of the storm event.
