As we celebrate food and all it means during our special exhibition Ferran Adria: The Invention of Food, we must acknowledge that for some, food is not the subject for discourse or experimentation, but a very real necessity which is all too often lacking.
In our own county, the statistics are sobering: 1 in 7 adults in Pinellas County do not have consistent access to the food they need and 17% of Pinellas County residents, including 1 in 4 children, are food insecure.
The Dali joins the fight against hunger by collecting non-perishable, high-demand canned food items from November 1-23, 2016. These items will be distributed by two of our area’s largest food banks, St. Petersburg Free Clinic and RCS Food Bank. Museum visitors donating canned food will each receive one $2-off (adult or senior) admission.*
The following non-perishable items are in highest demand:
- Canned vegetables
- Dried beans
- Canned meats (tuna, etc.)
- Canned soups (low-sodium preferred)
- Canned fruits (low-sugar preferred)
- Other “pop-top” nonperishable foods
Please consider bringing much-needed canned food donations when you visit The Dali this November. Together we can help assure that someone who might go without is instead nourished by our contributions.
The Museum thanks its generous partners who are helping to fight hunger, Publix of Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco and Pinellas Counties; Feeding Tampa Bay for its work during Hunger Action Month and throughout the year; and St. Petersburg Free Clinic and RCS Food Bank, for their year-round compassion and action.
