Author and Sports Executive Rick Vaughn’s Historic Book Signing
August 9, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeAs the guessing game of the Tampa Bay Rays’ future continues, it’s hard to believe that St. Petersburg was once known as the city that baseball built.
In his recently released book, “100 Years of Baseball on St. Petersburg’s Waterfront – How the Game Helped Shape a City,” Rick Vaughn explores the historic partnership between the Sunshine City and America’s favorite pastime.
Vaughn, a 30-year veteran in the sports communication field with the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays and Washington Redskins, will speak and hold his book release and signing on August 9 at 6 p.m. at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.
“100 Years of Baseball on St. Petersburg’s Waterfront” takes readers on a baseball journey from former Mayor Al Lang bringing Major League Spring Training to St. Pete in 1914, to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ first game on February 27, 1998, in the stadium that now bears Lang’s name.
From Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth to Joe DiMaggio and Jackie Robinson, hundreds of baseball’s Hall of Fame elite played on the waterfront and walked the streets of St. Petersburg. “100 Years of Baseball on St. Petersburg’s Waterfront” shares many of those star-studded stories.
The August 9th book release and signing takes place just a home run’s distance from the old Waterfront Park and home to the Schrader’s Little Cooperstown – an exhibit of the World’s Largest Collection of Autographed Baseballs.
Advanced copies of “100 Years of Baseball on St. Petersburg’s Waterfront – How the Game Helped Shape a City” are available at the Museum of History for $23.99. Museum members receive 10% off.
