ENCOURAGING WORDS

What Kind of King or Queen Are You?

“Your real self — the ‘’I Am’’ is master of this land, the ruler of this empire. You rightfully have power and dominion over it, all its inhabitants, and all contained in its realm.”  ~ Robert Collier

With the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the media has placed much attention on the monarchy and the making of a King or Queen. Have you ever thought of yourself as royalty? Well, that’s exactly what you are, like it or not! At birth you were appointed the sole (soul) sovereign ruler of your own kingdom. Of course, the kingdom I am talking about is the domain of your own life; your own mind and your own body, which means the only inhabitant of your kingdom is you. You are the master… the ruler of your own empire, and you are the entirety of its citizenry!

This is a delicious dilemma, isn’t it? The question you must ask yourself is; “What kind of ruler am I?” As the ruler, how do you treat the only citizen who lives in your kingdom? With benevolence and kindness, or are you a hard ruler who keeps the citizenry in bondage of some sort? History, mythology, and fairytales are full of stories and metaphor of how different rulers have managed their kingdoms. What we see at the end of these stories is that the ruler who treats the citizens with thoughtless cruelty, selfishness, disrespect, and hardheartedness often loses his or her kingdom to the acrimony, rancor, and ultimately, rebellion of the inhabitants. Those rulers who treat their subjects with generosity, compassion and kindness have kingdoms that thrive and prosper because the citizens love the ruler, as he or she loves them as well. Herein lies the lesson for each of us.

Is there any rebellion brewing in your kingdom? If you were to take an introspective look at how you, as the ruler, are treating yourself as a citizen of your own kingdom, what would you find? It’s easy to determine if the citizenry in your kingdom is preparing a rebellion or not—just take a glance at your life. How peaceful is it? Walk down the streets of your own mind and examine what is going on. Is it safe there? Is there any inner conflict, angst, resentment, disagreement, self-judgment, or discontentment there? Now, do the same with your physical body; does it feel more like it’s in a war zone, or at a meditation retreat? You can even extend this analysis to the body of your relationships with others. Are your neighboring kingdoms at war with yours, or is there peace throughout the land?

Well, how does your kingdom measure up? What kind of ruler are you? If you discover there may be a rebellion brewing, it’s never too late to become a different ruler. What would it take to treat yourself with more respect and loving-kindness? How would it feel for you to issue clemency and forgiveness to yourself for whatever mistakes you have made in the past? How would it feel to know that you remain safe and provided for by using your own innate wisdom to create wholeness in your life? How would it feel to extend these same considerations to the relationships in your life as well? How would a benevolent ruler who was absolutely comfortable with his or her own authentic power and never intimidated or threatened by external power treat the subjects of his or her domain? With equanimity, love, respect, and appreciation, that’s how.

Can you now see that you really are royalty? Of course, the real reason you possess such great and awesome power is that, just like any other king or queen, you were born into it. You didn’t have to earn it—you inherited it! Because of this, and as a living manifestation of the Infinite, there is no person on the planet with more power than you. Your real Self, the ‘I Am,’ is the ruler of this empire! So, the question is, now that you know you are the sovereign ruler of your own kingdom, how will you manage that power? Choose wisely, because the inhabitant of your kingdom deserves the best, yes? Choose to treat yourself with love and respect and you shall live happily ever after. And, thus the saying, “Long live the King (or Queen).”
