City of Dunedin Recognizes The Honu Restaurant as a Veteran Friendly Business

The City of Dunedin’s U.S. Military Veterans Advisory Committee is proud to recognize The Honu Restaurant as a Veteran Friendly business. The Committee was established in January of 2018. One of their first initiatives was to create a program that recognizes businesses in Dunedin as Veteran Owned and/or Veteran Friendly. The Committee launched the program in November 2018 recognizing Happy’s Bayou Bites as their first business to be approved as a Veteran Owned & Veteran Friendly business.

The second business to be approved and recognized by the Dunedin U.S. Military Advisory Committee is The Honu Restaurant. As a Veteran Friendly Business, the Hawaiian-theme restaurant offers 10% off meals to their Veteran customers.

“Honu” means turtle in Hawaiian, typically referring to the endangered Green Sea Turtle in Hawaii. Several years back, restaurant owner, Kimberly Platt, fell in love and fully appreciated the beauty and majestic turtles that peacefully sleep on the beaches and lava rocks on the Big Island. In February 2016, they opened The Honu Restaurant located at 516 Grant St, Dunedin. They honor the amazing Green Sea Turtle at the restaurant and invite you to share in continuing their story that decorates the walls and fills their hearts. The lei’d back cafe is a contemporary eatery with a relaxed vibe serving island-style dishes with a creative twist. The menu represents the best, fresh ingredients of what the local markets and farmers have to offer. Most of their dishes can be made vegetarian or vegan. Your ‘Ilio (means dog in Hawaiian) or your canine furry family members are always welcome on the Lanai. Your “Keiki” (means child in Hawaiian) can stay busy working on the keiki menu which is full of turtle-themed activities. Visit The Honu Restaurant website or Facebook page to read more about their story, restaurant hours, beverages and delicious menu items. Aloha!
