Meet the Makers on Corey: CHURNED ICE CREAM

Meet Alyssa & Ray of Churned Ice Cream!

Ray, a chef from the UK, and Alyssa, a Minnesotan, met in 2000 in Australia. Ray moved “across the pond” to the USA to be with the love of his life in 2001!

In 2011 they made a major life decision. They renovated a ‘71 VW Bus, sold all their belongings including their house, and took off on a world trip where they traveled to three continents in the VW (nicknamed Diva due to her high maintenance nature). They shipped her to Europe and eventually drove to North Africa. There they helped run a luxury safari lodge in Kenya for almost three years. Then in Myanmar, they helped build and run an island resort. Then came Covid! Stuck on the island for over 55 days they had a lot of time to dream…ice cream dreams, that is.

After working abroad for almost 10 years and having their hand slightly forced by Covid, they found themselves back in the U.S., driving Diva from Minnesota to Florida in search of a new life. Their dream was to make ice cream, which in turn would make themselves and others happy!

They stumbled across the Corey Avenue Sunday Market in St. Pete Beach 3 ½ months and 5,000 miles later, and “it just felt like this is where we belonged.” Soon after, they made St. Pete their new home and Corey Avenue Sunday Market their first market!

Their small batch homemade ice cream is all hand made from the finest egg yolks, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla and high quality ingredients such as hand shaved Belgium chocolate. No stabilizers, no preservatives. They also have vegan ice cream, frozen fruit bars and the best Puppy Pints around!

When asked, they will tell you “We are living the dream and couldn’t be happier.” Come meet them and try their yummy treats Sundays on Corey Ave. and Wednesdays at Madeira Beach 10am-2pm, and Fridays at the Dunedin Downtown Market 9am-2pm.
