BOOK REVIEW: The Tales of the Animal Heroes of Livingston Cove

Review by Mackenzie Allen

Local author Linda Davis has published her first children’s fiction book.

“There is no better way to explain life, values and morals than in the daily lives of animals.  They can teach us so much about ourselves and how to co-exist with everyone,” she says on the back cover.

In upstate New York, near the St. Lawrence Seaway, a special group of animal heroes solve daily challenges in their community by helping others. The members of the Livingston Cove gang include the very loyal McGovern, kind-hearted Ella Bella, the fun and friendly Tank, and Duke, a brave war dog with a very sad history. The gang always makes it their mission to stop bullies, help lost animals they come across, and deal with the thieves that  may be taking what does not belong to them.

Throughout the book, the animal gang deals with lost charms,  a stealing crow in the park, forest adventures that turned for the worse, and the support needed for all animals in the gang.

This book is a great way for children to learn how to keep their imaginations alive throughout life’s daily challenges.

The Tales of the Animal Heroes of Livingston Cove (Hard cover $25.95) was published by Archway Publishing with a colorful, glossy, hard cover and features colorful, creative, full page, cartoon style illustrations throughout. Available  online and in stores; Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Walmart. It would make a fine gift for grade and middle school children or parents who read to their younger children.

As the book concludes, “Keep your imagination working and your heart open. Strike out to be your best. Help others to be great and you will be even greater.”
