A healthy diet is just one element of our well-being. Your daily food intake – which should contribute to wellness – may be adversely impacted by other factors. With regard to food, is your body assimilating what you eat? Can you digest it? What about the emotional and social elements that we consume?
Our well-being goes beyond what we eat. The physical body is affected by stress and anxiety from family, work, what we listen to, watch, read, think and the people we interact with. Many of my clients tell me about the stress factors that prevent them from doing what they know they should for their health. Too many demands lead to fast food, no time to walk or rest. This leads to imbalance.
We need to learn to Be Still and take time for ourselves. Balance applies to so many aspects of a serene and successful life. If we do not prioritize ourselves, we will not have balance. We must learn to prioritize our well-being – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s ok to choose you. You can’t save someone else if you don’t put on your oxygen mask or life vest first.
How do we take the time to Be Still? Sit outside with no phone. Sit with yourself. Breathe. Listen to your body. What is it trying to tell you? Listen. Quiet, for just 15 minutes, your racing mind and concerns. Analyze your day. What has drained you? What has uplifted you? What has fed you physically, emotionally, or spiritually?
Why not make your summer mantra “take some time to get in touch with yourself.” Ask, what are you consuming – not just food – that does not feed you? Keep a journal of everything that impacts your well-being. We all deserve to live well with love, laughter, joy, and good health. You are the one who gets to choose. Choose you. Each morning tell yourself: I love myself, I honor myself, I will take care of myself. Then do it!
