St. Petersburg Arts Alliance recently hosted an Arts Roundtable to feature the three new museums that are coming soon to our artful community. Together they will expand and enrich St. Petersburg as an arts destination for our visitors, tourists and residents.
IMAGINE MUSEUM – THE HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN STUDIO GLASS ART – GRAND OPENING LATE JANUARY 2018!
Nate Jessup, Director – Located at 1901 Central Ave., Imagine Museum elevates the art of contemporary American studio glass through research, exhibitions, and education. Their goal is to collaborate with other cultural groups, reach the artist in everyone, and support creativity wherever it is found. The museum will house a permanent collection and also produce exhibits, events, and programs about early and new directions in the glass medium. Imagine Museum will help bring the 2019 International Glass Art Society Conference to St. Pete. The Imagine Museum plans a soft opening before the end of the 2017, with a grand opening in late January, 2018.
THE JAMES MUSEUM OF WESTERN + WILDLIFE ART
– OPENING SPRING 2018! –
Bernice Chu, Interim Director The James Museum will house 28,000 sq. ft. of gallery space and 3,800 sq. ft. of special exhibition space. All pieces have been donated by Tom and Mary James from their personal collection, featuring 400+ works of western and wildlife art by 200 artists and a premier Native American jewelry collection.The James Museum will feature a 140-seat theater, 6,000 sq. ft. of museum event space, education classrooms, and a museum store and cafe. The museum is located at Central Avenue between 1st & 2nd Street.
MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT – OPENING 2019 at 3rd Street N and 3rd Ave N.
Tom Magoulis, Executive Director and Albert Alfonso, Architect (R) – The MAACM is the world’s only museum dedicated to the American Arts & Crafts movement. The MAACM will present the unparalleled collection of the Two Red Roses Foundation – consisting of nearly 2,000 important examples of furniture, pottery, tiles and architectural faience, lighting, woodblocks, textiles, photography, and fine arts from the American Arts and Crafts movement.
The museum will be five stories tall, 137,000 sq ft! The event space will host banquets, corporate functions, celebrations, receptions, seminars, holiday parties and sales meetings. Patrons will be able to shop in the museum store and dine in the destination restaurant. The MAACM museum is located at 3rd Street & 3rd Avenue North.

Smithsonian Exhibit in Tarpon Springs
The Smithsonian exhibition The Way We Work explores the powerful story of work in the lives of Americans, and is open through November 17 at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center. In order to enhance visitors’ experience of the exhibit, Tarpon Arts and the Center for Gulf Coast Folklife are hosting an accompanying public program exploring local and regional connections.

ArtsXchange in the Warehouse Arts District More than 24 artists are moving into newly constructed studios at the ArtsXchange (515 22nd St. South), a project of the Warehouse Arts District Association. The building houses more than 2,500 square feet of gallery, education and event space. Inaugural tenants represent a broad range of artistic disciplines. Additional ArtsXchange tenants include Dazzio Art Experience, MGA Sculpture Studio and Soft Water Studios.
More than 400 artists (10% from outside Florida) have signed up in advance for working space in the ArtsXchange facility. BungalowFest 2017 “A Celebration of Art & Architecture” Home Tour,
Saturday, November 4th 10 – 4 is sponsored by The Historic Kenwood Neighborhood Association in conjunction with The Artist Enclave of Historic Kenwood – Explore architectural diversity with 11 homes spotlighting our urban rebirth and the phenomenon of living large in small spaces. Craftsman Bungalows, Tudor, Four Square and Mid-Century Modern homes are all featured.
The tour additionally includes the neighborhoods first Public Art Installation. Begin at Seminole Park – 2900 3rd Ave. N. St Petersburg 33713.

Florida Holocaust Museum (FHM) partnered with Eckerd College in a 25th Anniversary oral history series titled “25 Survivors, 25 Stories… Celebrating 25 Years!” A different Holocaust Survivor will be presented on the 25th of each of the next 25 months. Each Survivor brings to the series an individual voice that enlivens our understanding of the Holocaust; the war’s effects on individuals, families, and communities dispersed across the world; and its reverberations into the present moment.
In the coming months, The FHM will present numerous 25th Anniversary celebratory programs, events, and exhibitions, along with its daily educational and outreach efforts. Here are a couple highlights. www.TheFHM.org/25th
November 9 – The Florida Holocaust Museum’s annual Kristallnacht commemoration ceremony will include prayers and candle- lighting. After the ceremony the Museum presents the Music of Resistance and Survival, a Kristallnacht remembrance concert that combines music and educational presentations to engage audiences in meaningful Holocaust remembrance.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017/18, The Florida Orchestra is recognized as Tampa Bay’s leading performing arts institution, the largest professional symphony orchestra in Florida, and one of the most vibrant and innovative orchestras in America. The Florida Orchestra Guild Holiday Tour of Homes will feature homes in the Snell Isle and Brightwaters Boulevard NE and Snell Isle neighborhoods of St. Petersburg. Saturday, December 2, from 10 am to 4 pm. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 the day of the Tour. Reservations for a Holiday Reception – Friday, December 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, will also be on sale at the Orchestra Box Office Lobby for $80/person, which includes a tour ticket.

St. Petersburg’s Arts Alliance presents the Fifth Annual MUSE Benefit for the Arts 0 MUSE will celebrate artistic inspiration on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 7 pm at the Museum of Fine Arts. The St. Petersburg’s 5th benefit for arts will recognize the breadth and beauty of art and culture in our City of the Arts, and pay tribute to those that continue to inspire and guide St. Petersburg to its standing as an international arts destination. Fusion of Surrealist art and fashion. At the Dali through January 14 – First exhibition dedicated to Schiaparelli and Salvador Dalí. Featured are Dalí & Schiaparelli Haute Couture gowns and accessories, jewelry, paintings & drawings, objects & photos, plus new designs by
Maison Schiaparelli. Surrealist art & Fashion – Elsa Schiaparelli, incorporated bold Surrealistic themes into her designs. Dali, was a major inspiration to her and she was a major leader of design from one war to the next. Her designs incorporated Renaissance quality with wild imagination and visions that were dreamlike.
St Petersburg City Theatre – A Christmas Carol directed by David Middleton has been cast. An Opening Night Fundraiser is planned for December 8, look for an invite soon with more details. A Christmas Carol continues its run December 9, 10, 15, 16 & 17. Jesus Christ Super Star directed by Christine White will be the Spring Musical. Auditions are January 7 & 8. Performances will be March 15, 16, 17, 23, 24 & 25.
Downtown St. Petersburg Audio Walking Tour – “Walk St. Petersburg.” It is a 12 – stop downtown, self-guided audio tour and a part of the “Florida Stories” audio tour series. The tour contain an audio narration and synchronized photos, giving one a unique “behind the scene” view of the town. Kristin Chenoweth, Tony Award winning actress and singer, and Soprano Nadine Sierra will be guest performers for world renowned tenor, Andrea Bocelli at his annual Valentine’s Day performances.
