Bring family and friends to enjoy FREE film classics and music each Thursday evening in May on St. Petersburg’s beautiful downtown waterfront in North Straub Park (400 Bayshore Dr., NE). The movies and music events are produced by St. Petersburg Preservation. The fun begins with music at 7 pm and movies at dark in the park, on Beach Drive and between 4th and 5th Avenues NE.
As a bonus movie for west side St. Pete, Movies in the Park will also be showing on Thursday, April 28 on the waterfront at the Admiral Farragut Academy (700 Park St. N.) Movies are free; pay-what-you-can donations appreciated. May marks the 7th season for Movies in the Park, an event many refer to as the best “little” event in the waterfront parks.
Movie goers are welcome to come early to listen to the music and to enjoy the beautiful evening with a picnic, either by purchasing food and drink from some of the St. Petersburg’s best vendors set up in the park or by bringing their own food. Bringing a blanket or low seat to sit on is recommended. There will be a limited number of folding chairs available. A great way to get to Movies in the Park is on bicycle and secure, on-site bicycle valet parking will be available, thanks to the St. Pete Bike Co-Op.

This move only will take place on the waterfront at ADMIRAL FARRAGUT ACADEMY (700 Park St. N.). No alcohol allowed at Farragut. Evening’s music, Sasha Tuck & the Friendly Giants (jazz fusion).

Three Amigos (1986) – Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Steve Martin, Chevy Chase & Martin Short – down on their luck & up to their necks in senoritas, margaritas, banditos and bullets! Evening’s music, The Reina Collins Band (Americana with a Cinco de Mayo flavor).

Radio (2003) – Cuba Gooding Jr., Ed Harris & Debra Winger. The touching & true story of a high school football coach and the developmentally challenged man he takes under his wing. A film to renew your faith in human nature. Evening’s music, Green Light District (jam band).

Searching for Sugarman (2012) – Academy Award winning film about a little-known Detroit musician whose haunting voice & poetic lyrics made some believe he would be the next Dylan. Instead, he became a South African folk hero while being virtually unknown in the USA. You will leave wanting the sound track! Evening’s music, Acho Brother (Latin fusion).

Labyrinth (1986) – Our tribute to David Bowie! Labyrinth packs enough surprises to captivate an audience of children and provides enough wisecracking to keep adults laughing. Evening’s music, The Dukes of Rockingham (‘70’s with Bowie influence).
