Pinellas County residents are invited to give a tree a home this year in celebration of Florida Arbor Day. On Saturday, Jan. 23, residents can attend the inaugural Adopt-a-Tree event at the UF/IFAS Extension in Pinellas County at 12520 Ulmerton Road in Largo.
Adopt-a-Tree will include lectures and hands-on classes taught by UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County horticultural agents to educate attendees about choosing, planting and maintaining new trees for their yards. Those who attend will be able to take home trees selected to thrive in yards and landscapes found in Pinellas County. The trees will be provided by Sweet Bay Nursery, located in Parrish.
Check-in for the Adopt-a-Tree program will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The schedule will include the following classes and lectures:
– What Trees Provide for Us: 9 to 9:30 a.m.
– Putting a Tree in the Right Place and Fun Tree Facts: 9:30 to 10 a.m.
– Initial Planting and Tree Care: 10:15 to 11 a.m.
– After Care and Maintenance: 11 to 11:15 a.m.
